CEP as sauce for alphabet soup (Part 1): Overview
Posted by Paul Vincent

One of the interesting class of questions that can be raised when discussing applications for CEP products (like TIBCO BusinessEvents) is how CEP fits in the smörgåsbord of current best-practice technology acronyms (in no particular order BI, BAM, BPM, SOA, EDA, ESB, BRE/BRMS, BPEL, BPMN et al). These technologies, standards, solutions and ideas all interact in modern, buzzword-compliant software architectures, and CEP can usually be used in/alongside these to provide additional value. But why, how and where? That is what we will be exploring in this series of posts.

On that note, we in the CEP team are especially interested to have a new technology partner in the TIBCO stable - you may have seen the Spotfire announcement recently. Having an advanced BI tool with data visualization and analytics will be very exciting for TIBCO customers. We shall cover BI as the first acronym to look at from a CEP context.
